World of Warcraft – Item Upgrading The item upgrade lets players increase the gear rating of an item up to 700 points and add a bonus. Items can be upgraded by having them in inventory before heading to the kiln. In addition there are many weapons with a set bonus that activates when three or more of the same weapon are equipped on a single unit. This bonus can sometimes be more than the damage that an upgrade alone can cause. A weapon's upgrade costs depend on the rarity of the weapon and its current level. For instance an item with a rating of +2 will require two regular Smithing Stones to upgrade while an upgrade of +3 requires four. The number of stones needed to upgrade a weapon will continue increase until it is required to use an upgrade to a higher level of Smithing Stones, at which the number will be reset to one. Upgrades to weapons will also alter the stats of the base. This is generally a positive factor, but it could also have negative effects. Upgrades can render items impossible to use, unless you are very lucky. It is possible to upgrade armor items to increase their stats. This can increase the base defense of a chest or helm as well as belts and gloves. These will boost their required strength and agility. Armor also offers the option of rerolling its Enhanced Defense%, meaning that it could reroll to a lower value. The upgrade template for a weapon displays the new stats it will get when upgraded and their relative values. This means that an upgrade from a sword with 8 damage to an 11 attack-damage sword will result in the weapon gaining 33% attack damage. The 3% does not mean that the weapon will be hit 3 times less, as it is an absolute number. Upgrades to your potion require a specific amount of XP. This can be obtained by crafting them on a crafting table or by placing them in the Alchemist chest. However, the upgrade price changes depending on what type of potion you'd like to upgrade, as well as on the item's Mark Level and rarity. To upgrade a potions simply right-click on it in your inventory. Then, select “Upgrade” from the menu. The upgrade vendors are located in major cities and the capital of each zone, as well as in in dungeons. Upgrades for trinkets can be purchased with gold, tokens or fragments of rare trinkets. Upgrades are a cost-effective alternative to buying a brand new trinket. It can be done by the player for just 12 tokens. The new trinket has the same level of base as the old trinket, but will also have an additional bonus of 1% upgrade. When the old Trinkets are not usable they can be upgraded. This allows players to increase their power and value over time. They can be traded among players, making them an alternative to gold.
